Ethical and Unethical issues in HR management

 HR (Human Resources) :

An HR department is an essential component of any business, regardless of an organization's size. It is tasked with maximizing employee productivity and protecting the company from any issues that may arise within the workforce.

HR plays a key role in helping companies deal with a fast-changing business environment and a greater demand for quality employees in the 21st century.

HR responsibilities include compensation and benefits, recruitment, firing, and keeping up to date with any laws that may affect the company and its employees.

Ethical issues in HR management:

Privacy:

Privacy is always a sensitive matter for an employee. Though a company culture may be friendly and open and motivates employees to freely discuss personal details and lifestyles, the HR manager has an ethical obligation to keep such matters private. To remain ethical, HR managers must abide by job-related details and leave out knowledge of an employee's personal life. This specifically comes into play when the competing company calls for a reference on an employee.

Cash and Compensation Plans:

There are ethical issues pertaining to salaries, executive perquisites, annual incentive plans, etc. The HR manager is often under pressure to raise the band of base salaries. There is increased pressure upon the HR function to pay out more incentives to the top management and the justification for the same is put as the need to retain the latter. While deciding upon the payout there is pressure on favoring the interests of the top management in comparison to that of other employees and stakeholders.

Unethical issues in HR management:

Data Breaching:

Security experts are aware that threats are constantly on the rise. However, there is one constant risk that remains the same: employees. People inside a company are frequently responsible for data breaches, both via ignorance and malicious intent.

Companies believe that the only way to prevent these types of data breaches is to educate their workers about the dangers of doing so and create a system where other employees may anonymously report any questionable conduct by their colleagues. Tools like EmpMonitor, on the other hand, may provide you with a wide range of capabilities and alert you to any unusual activity that has occurred.

Abusive Behavior:

Abuse and bullying in the workplace are illegal in several places. Abusive behavior is unethical and unprofessional in all circumstances. It might result in criminal and civil repercussions for you and your organization. Abusive behavior comprises aggressive, offensive, threatening, frightening, humiliating, or undermining actions with illegal intent.

A single incidence of abusive behavior does not inevitably result in a hostile workplace. Abuse might come in the form of a joke taken too far, an imprudent statement, or a blunder in the workplace environment.
